Parish Burial Fees

 The fees, payments and sums set out below for Part 1 interments only apply where the deceased has been an inhabitant or Parishioner of the parish of Great Wakering for a minimum period of 2 years before the death or within a period of 5 years prior to their death, or, in the case of a stillborn child, where the parents (or one of them) are, or at the time of death were, such inhabitants or parishioners. In all other cases, the fees, payments and sums will be trebled. Evidence will be required where parishioner fee is claimed.

Costs of children's funerals are directly reclaimed from the Children's Funeral Fund administered by the Ministry of Justice. 

 

Part 1. INTERMENTS

The fees indicated do not include the digging of the grave which is the responsibility of the funeral director to arrange.

1. For the interment, in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has not been granted:

  • (i) Of the body of a stillborn child or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 16 years £250.00
  • (ii) Of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 16 years £500.00

2. For the interment, in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted:

  • (i) Of the body of a stillborn child or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 16 years £250.00
  • (ii) Of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 16 years £500.00

3. For the interment of cremated remains in a grave:

  • (i) Of the body of a stillborn child or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 16 years £175.00
  • (ii) Of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 16 years £350.00

4. For the re-opening of an existing grave on the authority of the exclusive right of burial holder for an interment:

  • (i) Of the body of a stillborn child or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 16 years £275.00
  • (ii) Of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 16 years £550.00
 
 

The fees, payments and sums set out below for Part 2 Exclusive Rights of Burial only apply where the purchaser of the Exclusive Rights has been an inhabitant or Parishioner of the parish of Great Wakering for a minimum period of 2 years before the death of the person to be interred or within a period of 5 years prior to their death, or, in the case of a stillborn child, where the parents (or one of them) are, or at the time of death were, such inhabitants or parishioners. In all other cases, the fees, payments and sums will be trebled. Evidence will be required where parishioner fee is claimed.
 
Costs of children's funerals are directly reclaimed from the Children's Funeral Fund adminstered by the Ministry of Justice.
 

Part 2. EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS OF BURIAL IN EARTHEN WARD GRAVES

  • 1. For the exclusive right of burial for a period of 50 years in an earthen grave 9 feet by 4 feet £550.00
  • 2. For the exclusive right of burial of cremated remains in an earthen grave 4 feet by 2 feet for a period of 50 years £350.00
 
 
 
The fees, payments and sums set out below for Part 3  Gravestones and Monumental Inscriptions only apply where the purchaser  has been an inhabitant or Parishioner of the parish of Great Wakering for a minimum period of 2 years or within a period of 5 years from the deceased's death. In all other cases, the fees, payments and sums will be trebled. Evidence will be required where parishioner fee is claimed. The deceased cannot be the purchaser of a headstone, ashes tablet or memorial.
 
 

Part 3. GRAVESTONES AND MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS

 

For the right to erect on or place on a grave in respect of which the exclusive right of burial has been granted:

  • A Headstone or Ashes Tablet £185.00
  • The fee indicated for this Part includes the first inscription.
  • For each ashes tablet after the first £90.00
  • For each inscription after the first £90.00
  • New memorial permit for replacement of existing memorial  £75.00

Part 4. MISCELLANEOUS

  •        Transfer of exclusive right of burial - £75.00 plus any external costs.
  •        Extension of Exclusive Right of Burial 25 years - £400.00 (only once initial grant is lapsed)
  •        Grave search - £5.00 
  •        Exhumations at cost plus Officer time.
