About Our Parish Council

Great Wakering Parish Council is made up of elected and co-opted members who bring a wide range of professional skills and community experience. They are supported by the Parish Clerk who serves as the Council’s chief executive officer, financial officer, legal officer and primary point of contact for residents. The Clerk manages day-to-day administration, prepares agendas and minutes, provides legal and procedural advice, is responsible for financial affairs, oversees parish assets, and ensures the Council’s decisions are carried out efficiently and lawfully. The Clerk additionally has delegated powers to act individually and is chief Burial Officer.

In Great Wakering, the Council directly manages and maintains a number of important local services and facilities, including:

  • Parish street lighting

  • Parish burial ground but not St Nicholas churchyard

  • Parish bus shelters

  • Allotments

  • Village clock

  • Village pond

  • The Parish Council is also the landlord of Great Wakering Rovers football club.

Councillors also involve themselves in a variety of community areas managed by the District and County Councils, such as:

  • Footpaths & countryside

  • Highways & road safety

  • Planning matters

  • Events & local heritage

  • Environment & green spaces

The Parish Council regularly works with district and county authorities on issues that affect village life, such as potholes, public transport, GP surgery provision, local schools, and support for charitable and community organisations. However the Parish Council is an autonomous Council.

Every Councillor - and the Parish Clerk and her staff - are here to help. Residents are warmly encouraged to get in touch with their questions, concerns, or suggestions about village matters.
